Token Grand Rapids Concert reviews
Beach House Blackout
I have no idea what Token looks like, as I was unable to see the faces of any of the musicians. That's why I go to live music -- to SEE it being performed! This was the first time in more than 30 years of concert-going that my wife and I left a performance early. I honestly don't know if the performance was truly live (sections could have been recorded) because I could not SEE THE ARTISTS! Another issue for us was being seated a couple of rows behind the sound board. Couple these issues with the generally decaying condition of the Tower, which also was poorly lit, and it was a very negative experience. I kept waiting for the stage lights to illuminate the stage, but it never happened. The Tower should not seat people there -- it was difficult to see past the (ironically) well-lit monitors and equipment. The thrill is in witnessing the creation of music. This show was a huge disappointment, mainly because of the (lack of) lighting. I will think long and hard before returning again to the Tower.
